HALESOWEN PROJECTS
Halesowen Local Travel Points Pilot
Local Travel Points offer a range of sustainable transport options in one place. The idea is to make it easier to choose active and green travel for short trips by making alternatives to driving more convenient.
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) is piloting the scheme in Halesowen, in partnership with Dudley Council and Black Country Transport. A 'mini-network' of Local Travel Points is now open. The first two hubs have been installed at Huntingtree Park and Andrew Road, by Halesowen bus station. A third hub will open on Cross Street later this summer.
The £400,000 pilot scheme is being funded as part of the region’s Future Transport Zone. It will allow us to measure the impact of Local Travel Points so that we can plan whether and how to introduce more hubs in future. Following the pilot, TfWM aims to open Local Travel Points at key locations across Dudley and the region, including high streets, rail and bus stations, housing developments, and community centres.
The three locations will each feature a distinctive mix of services and information:
The Huntingtree Park hub offers WM Cycle Hire, cycle storage, a canopied seating area, a travel information point, and a parcel locker (coming soon). It has been tailored to suit the parkside location and TfWM will closely coordinate with the team at the neighbouring Healthy Hub Activity Centre.
The Andrew Road hub is located at a busy location on the edge of the town centre adjacent to Halesowen Bus station. It offers all the Huntingtree Park hub, and will soon feature an electric car charging point and car club access, too.
At Cross Street – the most residential location - there will be an active travel-focused offer with cycle hire, storage, and travel information.
