PENS MEADOW SCHOOL
NEW BUILD
Pens Meadow is a special school which provides education for pupils with complex needs, severe learning difficulties, including autism and pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
In late summer 2023, building works will begin on a brand-new state-of-the-art school.
The new school will:
• Increase capacity to offer 154 specialist provision places all on one site
• Provide 14 classrooms split equally between primary and secondary
• Create access to group and individual therapy rooms
• Include changing facilities with fitted tracked hoists to assist those pupils who are less mobile
• Create new teaching spaces which will all have direct access to outdoor teaching and play areas
• Feature two large outdoor courtyards providing safe and secure play space whilst bringing in natural light and ventilation into the building
• Create more specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool and a rebound therapy room. These specialist facilities have been designed with independent access to allow other schools and community groups to hire
• Offer staff rooms which overlook mature trees providing much needed respite and work preparation space
• Include a nursery and assessment areas
• Feature a main hall and separate flexible dining space
• Provide a fully catered kitchen to offer healthy meals for both the new school building and the existing post 16 unit
• Include new administrative offices and wide corridors to allow better access and movement
